Curiosity: The Word Toilet.
There is a slight difference in meanings for the word "toilet" in British and American English.
For British people, toilet is the room we use for disposing our physiological necessities (nice way of talking about crap, isn't it? Sorry, I couldn't help it.), while Americans call toilet the ceramic fixture we use for our relieving, which is inside the room, which in the U.S. is named a bahtroom or restroom, especially in public places. Confusing? Just wait for the rest!
In England, the room is called toilet as I said before. But how do people call the fixture threre? Toilet! Can you believe it? However, in an informal way they call it " the loo" (cute, isn't it?). This way, a misundestanding may be avoided.
You probably must have already seen the expression W.C. somewhere, haven't you? Well, such acronym means Water Closet and it is old-fashioned both in England and in the U.S.A. in spite of being so common in public restroom doors throughout Brazil.
Some interesting and useful expressions related to a bathroom / restroom / toilet:
Wash basin: the fixture used for washing your face and hands.
Shower: electrical equipment that sprays warm or cool water for you to wash your body by placing youself underneath it. Verbal form: to take a shower.
Bathtub: Fixture usually made of fiberglass or acrylic you go into for washing your body. Verbal form: to bathe.
Shower door: the closed part inside a bathroom you go for taking a shower.
Faucet (U.S.) / Tap (G. B.)*: the valve we use for controlling releasing of water in a wash basin, shower or bathtub.
* Great Britain.
Flush: equipment used for discharging the waste in a toilet by using water through a pipe, sending the dejects to the sewer system. Verbal form: to flush the toilet.
Toilet paper: Soft paper or tissue paper used for...oh, come on, you know it!
Toilet soap: Palmolive my friend!!
Mirror: that piece of glass that reflects your ugly face...
Oh come on, that's enough!!
